Emory seeks a physiatrist to join the expanding PM&R team at Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta's public hospital. The position will join an established inpatient consult service and be primarily responsible for developing outpatient stroke and general PM&R follow up clinics. The Stroke and Trauma Centers are marquee services for Grady and both are on a growth curve. Each year approximately 500 stroke patients are discharged from Grady directly to home. The majority of these patients need follow up care. A large portion of these patients continue to suffer from ICU-acquired weakness, cognitive dysfunction, PTSD, anxiety, and depression. Many of them do not understand the pathophysiology of their medical condition or grasp their secondary prevention strategy and are therefore, non-compliant. If they have a family, many questions and concerns of the caregivers have no systematic process to address their concerns or to coordinate care. We aim to develop outpatient clinic capacity to help provide care for patients past the acute hospital setting.
