Education and length of practice will be considered through a formal pay-setting process in determining the final compensable salary (Base Pay + Market Pay). The Allergy Section is a part of the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital, a level 1A facility with consults and referrals from VISN Medical Centers and outpatient clinics. The current position may entail possible academic appointment at Loyola University of Chicago, Stritch School of Medicine. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 4/16/21. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Physical requirements outlined below. Provides patients with accurate and compassionate treatment. Responsible for providing services in an efficient, high-quality, cost effective manner within budget allocation. Works directly with Section Chief to assist in ensuring adequate and appropriate staffing. Works with the Section Chief and other staff as appropriate, supports operations issues/problems resolution in a logical, step-wise fashion. Participates in a forum in which staff to identify, communicate and resolve issues related to Allergy and Immunology, Medicine Service, Medical Center ancillary and support operations and VISN-wide mandates. Works with the Section Chief and other disciplines as necessary to support, contribute to and implement policies, procedures, performance goals, strategic plans and initiatives. Seeks and enhances opportunities to promote and strengthen the Medical Center's and VISN goals. Responsible for implementing the goal of improving care for patients within the Medical Center and VISN. Has basic understanding of managed care practices, including health care finance, billing, coding and documentation. Have knowledge, ability and willingness to use and promote the dissemination among clinical staff of current automated technology for Health Information Management Sections (HIMS), patient data tracking, patient orders, etc. Contributes to the development, maintenance and enhancement of relations with internal and external entities including but not limited to: medical and nursing schools, therapist training programs, local public and private health care entities, colleagues in other Patient Services and Integrated Services such as Information Technology, Laboratory, and Business Office, labor, and VISN. Participates in local administrative, management, quality assurance, and other assignments, meetings or committees as assigned. Performance reflects and demonstrates support of the Section Chief, Chief of Medicine, Chief of Staff, Medical Center Director's, VISN Network and national goals. Participates in regular peer review activities. Must be alert to patient's condition and disorders. Reactions on the part of the patient require immediate attention so harm does not come to the patient. Maintains patient records and files. Follows HIPAA guidelines regarding patient information. Ensures timely completion of daily clinic notes with accurate documentation and coding of service rendered. Follows established safety practices and reports to Chief as promptly as possible to unsafe conditions, unsafe practices or any occupational illness or injury sustained. Adheres to all safety and health standards, regulations and work practices. Uses proper protective equipment as required. Participates in quality assurance (QA) activities to include and provide data collection, data analysis and trends, and reports on changes based on data collection.
