The VA Central Iowa Health Care System provides a full continuum of care between the Des Moines campus and our Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC's) and is one of the Medical Centers that make up the VA Midwest Health Care Network (VISN 23). Employee selected may be expected to perform duties at other duty sites within VA Central Iowa Health Care System based on the needs of the organization. The Ophthalmic Physician is aligned with the Surgery/Specialty Care Service Line in the inpatient and outpatient settings at the Des Moines VA Medical Center and is an integral part of the Surgery/Specialty Care team. The physician will spend most of their time in Ophthalmic Surgery; Attending on Surgical Service and; Caring for patients in the outpatient Surgical clinic. Patient care may be delivered via face to face, Telehealth, or phone consultation, as well as consultation via face to face encounters, MyHealtheVet, and e-consults. Duties include, but are not limited to the following: Performs a wide array of invasive and non-invasive services as established in current delineation of privileges Responsible to perform surgery and assist Ophthalmology residents with surgery Sees patients in consultation in both inpatient and outpatient settings Provides care of the Veterans' medical needs by performing examination, surgical consultation, and develops treatment and follow-up plans provide ongoing patient and family education throughout the course of treatment expertise in invasive and non-invasive surgical services as established in their current delineation of privileges Responsible for completing patient encounters, notes, and correctly coding visits in accordance with coding guidelines, VHA guidelines and By Laws Responsible for completing patient encounters, notes, and correctly coding visits in accordance with coding guidelines. Documentation must be completed within VHA guidelines and By Laws. Maintain skill, proficiencies, and professional knowledge necessary to maintain licensure and to perform clinical scope of practice. Attend staff meeting, serve on committees, teams, workgroups, and peer reviews as requested. Supervision of Ophthalmology Surgery residents and will maintain clinical oversight and review of the resident in accordance with regulations of the Residency Review Committee and VA standards regarding resident supervision. Work Schedule: Position is intermittent, hours to be discussed with applicant.
