The Section Chief will report to the Chief of Mental Health Service and will have oversight of the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit and the Mental Health Staff assigned to the Emergency Department. Supervision of residents is a major duty of this position. The duties include but are not limited too: · The incumbent may participate in the supervision of residents and students at various levels or training and will serve as consultant to other disciplines in the area of behavioral and mental health · The incumbent will provide oversight of all psychiatric and medical care in the Mental Health Service. · S/he will have oversight of 1) all staff serving the Acute Mental Health Unit (with the exception of nurses), 2) psychiatry training officer(s) 3) outpatient providers of mental health medical services and 4) psychiatrists serving the emergency room and/or Consultation and Liaison areas · S/he will participate in the process of hiring and boarding staff in his/her area(s) · S/he develops programming to meet the medication management and interventional medicine needs of veterans seeking mental health services. The incumbent will provide resident supervision, and supervision to other disciplines as needed. · The incumbent should have a strong foundation in psychiatric medicine and leadership/business practices. · The incumbent will have oversight and responsibility for the professional practice of psychiatry at the Memphis VAMC · The incumbent will have direct input into hiring decisions and performance evaluations of psychiatry staff. The Section Chief for Medical Services approves or disapproves leave for staff they supervise, prepares data for OPPE, peer review, and credentialing & privileging Work Schedule: Monday-Friday (8:00am - 4:30pm) May be required to work some evenings and weekends Financial Disclosure Report: Not required Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Position is Eligible
