A recruitment incentive may be authorized to highly qualified individuals. This position is primarily administrative in nature, but there can be clinical/clinical lead functions associated with the position. This position will be 80% administrative and 20% clinical. The position reports directly to the Chief of Staff. The ACOS-MH is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, implementing, controlling, and refining a comprehensive patient management/clinical support/administrative program which provides services and technical counsel necessary to meet clinical, procedural, legal, and administrative requirements relating to the care and treatment of inpatients and outpatients to achieve maximum utilization of patient care resources in a cost-effective, efficient, and timely manner. The ACOS-MH provides a climate in which clinicians can care for patients with an awareness of the administrative implications of his/her actions. The ACOS-MH must possess a broad clinical and administrative scope to meet the needs of this large, complex patient population and to integrate service line functions with those of other service lines as well as with other VA entities within and outside the local Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN). The ACOS-MH is responsible for implementing VA Headquarters policies and regulations governing broad administrative aspects of the medical center. The ACOS-MH participates with other service line managers in serving as a member of the Medical Center Director's top advisory group. Service line managers are tasked with providing active leadership and active decision making for the organization, are responsible for strategic planning and the budget process, are responsible for improvement of performance coordination and implementation, and are responsible for coordinating hospital wide activities. The ACOS-MH actively maintains a collaborative working relationship with top management to ensure full support and coordination among the programs supervised. The ACOS-MH analyzes and reports findings to the management team and/or Performance Improvement Council, as appropriate. The ACOS-MH is responsible for ensuring that services provided meet the standards set by accrediting agencies which govern the quality of care for this medical center. In conjunction with other service line managers and the Professional Practice Council, ACOS-MH works to assure that issues and deficiencies are corrected according to standards. Performs all duties and responsibilities of a staff psychiatrist. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday from 8:00am - 4:30pm - May be requested to provide evening, weekend, or holiday psychiatric coverage, if necessary, to ensure adequate coverage within the Mental Health Service Line.
