The MetroHealth System (MHS), a principal teaching hospital of the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, seeks a dynamic and respected leader for academic Chairperson of the Department of Neurology. Located in Cleveland, Ohio, the MHS is a fully integrated provider of high-quality healthcare, inclusive of the MetroHealth Medical Center and over 25 additional inpatient and outpatient facilities throughout Cuyahoga County.
The Chair must be a compelling leader and a recognized educator and/or investigator whose passion for the educational, clinical, and research missions energize the faculty, staff, and learners, focusing their efforts on a strategic vision of excellence in all missions. Recruitment, retention and mentoring of junior faculty are critically important components of the position. The Chair will also be a prudent steward of the Neurology Department and MetroHealth, guiding it through the inevitable changes in healthcare and our society. The Chair will be viewed by all stakeholders as a strong advocate for balancing the academic, educational and clinical missions within the Department and a willing collaborator with colleagues outside of the Department. The Chair will promote a culture of institutional stewardship and transparency, including commitment to improved clinical operations, efficient and effective use of space, and a willingness to re-align resources with evolving institutional strategies.
In 2019, the Department of Neurology completed 14,000 patient appointments, including numerous inpatient visits, interoperative monitoring procedures and a robust number of EEGs and EMGs. Additionally, through its 30-year partnership with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), the MHS offers an MDA clinic thus becoming a leading resource for people with neuromuscular disease and Greater Cleveland's only local MDA care center. Opportunities to collaborate with a diverse group of physician scientists and clinician educators also exist within the system, as the MHS is widely regarded in the areas of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Sleep Medicine and Neurovascular Disease.
