The Department of Genetics is seeking an ABMGG board eligible or a board-certified geneticist in both clinical genetics and clinical biochemical genetics to join its faculty at the level of Assistant Professor, with a secondary appointment in the Department of Laboratory Medicine. This new faculty member will serve as Lab Director for the Laboratory Medicine Biochemical Disease Detection Lab (BDDL) and as a Clinical Geneticist within our clinical operations by bringing their unique perspective and set of clinical skills to evaluate and manage the patients with genetic diseases including inborn error of metabolisms
The candidate will be responsible for re-opening and managing the biochemical genetics lab to provide optimal care of patients with metabolic disorders under the collaborative agreement between the Department of Laboratory Medicine and the Department of Genetics. In addition to Lab Director responsibilities, the candidate will also share responsibility for the inpatient service with the other genetics clinicians to ensure adequate coverage within the Genetics clinic.

The physicians are certified by the American Board of Medical Genetics and provide state of the art genetic services including diagnosis, evaluation, counseling, and management for genetic and congenital conditions.
The faculty member will contribute to the patient care and ease the increasing demand for the genetic consultation both in outpatient and inpatient setting in the Department of Genetics. The ideal candidate will also participate in teaching and training activities for medical students, residents, and clinical fellows in the clinical genetics program and department of genetics especially on the topic biochemical genetics; and will also be encouraged, but not required, to participate in patient centered research and to contribute to scientific publications.
About Us: Members of the Department of Genetics conduct basic, clinical and translational research using genetics and genomics of model organisms (yeast, fruit fly, worm, zebrafish, mouse) and humans to understand fundamental mechanisms of biology and disease. Areas of active investigation include genetic and epigenetic regulation of development and disease, molecular genetics, stem cells and other dynamic cellular systems, regulation of gene expression, computational biology and human genomics. The Department of Genetics also provides clinical care in Medical Genetics in the Yale New Haven Health System. Clinical genetics services include inpatient consultation and care, general, subspecialty, and prenatal genetics clinics, and clinical laboratories for cytogenetics, DNA diagnostics, and biochemical diagnostics. The Department sponsors a Medical Genetics Residency program leading to certification by the American Board of Medical Genetics. Admission to the Genetics Residency is directly through the Department.
