The position of staff physician in an Erickson Community requires a unique mix of personal and professional qualities. Briefly stated, the role of a staff physician is to practice high quality evidence based geriatric medicine in a manner that exceeds the residents’ expectations. 1. Conducts patient assessment, examinations and treats patients in a variety of settings. 2. Order diagnostic tests, consultations, analyses and diagnostic images to provide information on patient’s condition. 3. Analyze reports and findings of tests and examination and diagnose conditions. 4. Attend patients in medical office, nursing home, assisted living or hospital. 5. Administers or prescribes treatments and drugs. 6. Coordinates care with outside physicians, rehab providers, other facilities, as necessary. 7. Participates in activities to promote the growth of the practice. 8. Communicates with patients, their families and other providers to ensure high quality care, including discussions on end of life issues. 9. Participates in quality assurance, peer review and other administrative activities. 10. Documents services provided in medical chart and for billing purposes. 11. Work cooperatively and collaboratively with other physicians, nurses, medical assistants, administrative personnel and managers. 12. Supervise and direct midlevel providers.
The main functions of a staff physician are: Provide superb primary care services to all residents who choose to use the Medical Center. Typically 50% will do so in their first 4 months after move-in. Eventually 90% of the Community residents will do so. May attend on Medical Center patients when they are hospitalized. Provide primary care services and sub-acute services to our residents in the Community SNF and ALF units. This is done collaboratively with a staff nurse practitioner. Participate if so inclined in the marketing of both the Medical Center and the Retirement Community in general by attending and presenting at marketing functions, new resident orientations and medical education forums for residents.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: • Requires a medical degree from an accredited program, completion of a primary care residency program, with Board Certification in either Internal Medicine or Family Practice. Requires a minimum of 3 years medical practice experience. • Prefer candidates with geriatric fellowship training. • Applies principles of logic or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Deal with nonverbal symbolism in its most difficult phases. Deals with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
